A Few White Clouds at Sea
Qi Lan Solo Exhibition
2019.09.08 - 10.10

Qi Lan's stubbornness and sincerity speak for themselves in his pictures. He is especially serious about the changes of the details, as well as the hand movement and rhythm in painting process. Every spot and every stroke are clearly expressed, and similar details are carefully avoided. His ideal is that no identical strokes appear in a painting. This is obviously contrary or even intentional opposition to the traditional "united " form (format) of Chinese ink painting. He often stares at the picture for a long time and searches and combs his memory for the images to appear and pile on his paintings. With the passage of time, the images on the picture carry the trace of the past like historical relics. Perhaps what he said is true:"The feeling of history means the density of a language and the weight of time."
